Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley is pressing for action and not solely promises, as she wants international institutions to place money where it is needed in helping small island developing states (SIDS) fix the climate crisis.
She reiterated the world is running out of time, noting SIDS need trillions of dollars a year to respond to the effects of climate change and not the 100 billion promised 14 years ago.
Ms. Mottley’s comments came during a virtual address at the start of the 14th Petersberg Climate Dialogue, hosted by Germany and the United Arab Emirates – the incoming COP presidency.
Prime Minister Mottley also sees a need for a just industrial strategy for the global south.
