CMC – Trinidad and Tobago Police Service (TTPS) Commissioner, Erla Harewood-Christopher, Thursday urged the public to help law enforcement agencies in the investigations into the murders of four people, including three children, in the Heights of Guanapo, east of Port of Spain.
Police said that the killings happened shortly after midnight when a gunman dressed in hoodie entered the house and began shooting. They have given no motive for the killings.
The dead have been identified as Faith Peterkin, 10, Shane Peterkin, 17, Tiffany Peterkin, 19, and Adris Crawford, 17, while Christian Stephen, 18, James Mohammed, 25, Shenika Peterkin, 21, Arianna Peterkin, 14, and Jamiah Crawford, 14 have been hospitalised with injuries.
Harewood-Christopher said that while the TTPS is bouyed by the recent seizure of more than TT$100 million (One TT dollar=US$0.16 cents) worth of marijuana during an operation in the southern part of the island on Wednesday night, law enforcement officials “have no choice but to regroup and get on the ground to find the perpetrator(s) of the multiple murder which occurred early this morning in Guanapo”.
She said that officers of the Homicide Bureau, CSI and all other relevant personnel have been deployed, adding that “just as someone partnered with the TTPS, which led to a massive drug seizure” she is appealing to the public to help solve the latest murders.
Last year Trinidad and Tobago registered a record 600 murders and so far this year. More than 420 people have been killed.
