November 1, 2024

With the start of Crime Awareness Month today, Barbados will be engaging with the youth to build awareness of crime and violence and their impact.

Efforts are being led by the Criminal Justice Research and Planning Unit, in collaboration with the National Peace Programme.

Data Coordinator with the National Crime Prevention and Reduction Unit in the Office of the Attorney General, Yannick Stephens-Nelson says youth will be engaged through various competitions and other activities.

Crime Awareness Month will be observed with the theme ‘Engaging Youth to Prevent Offending and Reoffending’.

Later this month, a webinar is planned where the findings of an updated recidivism study will be released.

Senior Programme Officer with the Criminal Justice Research and Planning Unit, Tameshia Howell revealed the study measured the level of reoffending among a cohort of inmates released from prison.
