No push back on most of issues outlined in policy

Minister of People Empowerment and Elder Affairs, Kirk Humphrey is reporting there was no push back on most of the issues outlined in the national policy for improving the lives of persons with disabilities.

He thanked all the organisations representing the disabled community, the Advisory Committee and National Disabilities Advocate, Edmund Hinkson, along with Barbadians and the NGO sector for their input.

The policy was up for Debate in Parliament with Minister Humphrey moving a resolution in the Lower House on Tuesday.

Several members of the disabled community along with their supporters were present for the occasion.

They were assured the proposed legislation will be before parliament by the end of the year.

Minister Humphrey says he and his team is willing to meet with the Opposition Democratic Labour Party on the policy.

Minister Humphrey says it must be recognised the disabled community has immense potential as he weighed in on the challenges that still exist.

He says more can be done to improve the lives of persons with disabilities, including in the area of education and transportation.

The latter has says is a major issue for the disabled.
