Those areas affected by Hurricane Beryl, especially the fishing industry, are set to benefit from an injection of US$54 million in assistance from the World Bank.
This was revealed by Minister of Foreign Affairs and Foreign Trade Kerrie Symmonds during his contribution to the Merchant Shipping Bill, 2024 in Parliament.
Following the passing of the Category 5 hurricane on July 1, 240 boats were destroyed or damaged, and of those, 140 severely damaged.
Minister Symmonds adds however there is a condition to the financing in either kind or cash contributions.
He notes the funds will also be used to rehabilitate landing sites across the island.
