October 18, 2024

West Indies have been prevented from reaching their second women’s T20 World Cup final, as New Zealand have guaranteed there will be a first-time champion.

The lady Ferns beat West Indies Women by eight runs in today’s second semifinal, to join South Africa in Sunday’s final.

Playing at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium, New Zealand women opted to bat first and posted 128 for 9.

Deandra Dottin had impressive figures of 4 for 22, while Afy Fletcher took 2 for 23.

Georgia Plimmer top scored with 33.

West Indies slipped to 63 for 5 in pursuit, before Deandra Dottin’s Dynamic 33 from 22 balls, with 3 sixes, rejuvenated the chase.

But Player of the Match Eden Carson with 3 for 29, and Amelie Kerr’s 2 for 14, put a halt to any thoughts of victory, as West Indies finished on 120 for 8 to lose by eight runs.
