Bangladesh claims first World Cup win since 2014

The ICC women’s T20 World Cup bowled off today, with Bangladesh claiming their first World Cup win since 2014, and their first ever away from home when they defeated Scotland by 16 runs in Sharjah.

Choosing to bat first, Bangladesh posted 119 for seven led by 36 from Sobhana Mostary.

Saskia Horley took three for 13.

Scotland was stifled by Bangladesh’s variety of spin options and could only manage 103 for seven, with the only resistenance coming from opener Sarah Bryce ended on 49 not out.

Meanwhile, in the day’s second game, the Pakistan women were 31-run winners over Sri Lanka women.

Sri Lanka held Pakistan to 116 in their 20 overs.

Captain Fatima Sana led with 30 and 23 from Nida Dar.

In reply, Sri Lanka was held to 85 for nine as player of the match Sana returned with the ball to take two wickets and Sadia Iqbal took three for 17.

The West Indies Women will be in action in their first match at 6 a.m. against South Africa Women.
