Despite a magnificent century from Nicholas Pooran, Trinbago Knight Riders have finished in 3rd place of the Republic Bank CPL, and will therefore have to play in tomorrow’s eliminator match.
The Knight Riders went into last night’s final preliminary match against hosts Guyana Amazon Warriors at Providence in 3rd place, and needed a big win to get into the top-two places and qualify for the 1st qualifier.
Winning the toss and batting, TKR posted 211 for 5.
Player of the Match Pooran led the onslaught, smashing 101 from just 58 deliveries, that included 9-fours and 8-sixes; while pacer Shamar Joseph took 3 for 50.
Warriors, in reply, needed to score 104 to ensure their net run rate would keep them in the top two, and to score 114 to remain in the top spot, they ended up making 137 off 18.5 overs to lose by 74 runs, but still finish in first place on 14 points with a superior net run rate over St. Lucia kings and TKR.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz top scored with 36, while Terrance Hinds took 3 for 17, Nathan Edward 3 for 19, and Waqar Salamkheil 3 for 26.
So in the playoffs fourth place Barbados Royals will take on third place Knight Riders in tomorrow’s eliminator, with the loser going home.
The first qualifier between 1st place Warriors and 2nd place Kings will be on Wednesday, with the winner advancing straight to the final.
The 2nd qualifier will be between the loser of the first qualifier and the winner of the eliminator and that will be on Friday, with the winner advancing to the final on Sunday.
All matches in the playoffs will be played at Providence in Guyana.
Tomorrow’s eliminator match between the Royals and TKR will be live on MCTV’s Sportsmax channel 310 from 7 p.m.
CBC TV8 is bringing tape delayed coverage from 8:03 p.m.
