A Severe Thunderstorm Warning is in effect for Barbados.
This Warning is issued when significant lightning activity is expected in a short period of time (generally less than 6 hours) or is already occurring within the warning area.
Severe lightning activity is currently occurring across Barbados. Therefore, the Barbados Meteorological Services has issued the Severe Thunderstorm Warning.
Take note of the following possible impacts:
•Lighting activity at or near your location could result in power outages if lighting strikes power utility infrastructure
•Persons are reminded that lightning strikes can be life-threatening.
The public is encouraged to monitor the DEM and GIS websites and their respective social media pages along with the local media networks for further information on what you should do.
An approaching tropical wave in conjunction with an upper-level trough is generating unstable across the island.
This Severe Thunderstorm Warning was issued at 6 a.m. today, September 24, 2024, and will be updated/terminated at 11 a.m. or sooner if conditions warrant.
