As a trough system continues to affect Barbados a Severe Thunderstorm Watch is in effect until 8 p.m. today, Wednesday, September 18, 2024.
The Barbados Meteorological Services warned that “lighting activity at or near your location could result in power outages if lighting strikes power utility infrastructure. Persons are reminded that lightning strikes can be life-threatening”.
A Severe Thunderstorm Watch is issued when there are spatial distributions of thunderstorms affecting or forecast to affect between 25 and 50 per cent of the land area within 48 hours.
The public is encouraged to monitor the DEM and GIS websites and their respective social media pages along with the local media networks for further information on what you should do.
This Severe Thunderstorm Watch or Warning was issued at 6 p.m today and will be updated/terminated at 8 p.m.
