September 13, 2024

CMC – Two people were killed when a small plane crashed as it made an emergency landing on Thursday off the western coast of New Providence.

According to the Aircraft Accident Investigation Authority (AAIA), a Piper Aztec aircraft was en route to the Lynden Pindling International Airport with six people on board when the pilot encountered difficulties, which subsequently led to him ditching the aircraft in waters approximately eight miles west of New Providence.

Officials said emergency response protocols were initiated by the Royal Bahamas Police Force, Royal Bahamas Defence Force and the United States Coast Guard.

One of the victims was Emma Williams, who was on her way to her mother’s funeral in Lowe Sound, on the island of Andros.

The second crash victim, Allen Russell, believed to be in his 80s, was a local taxi driver in Andros.

The four survivors, who were treated at a hospital following the incident, are said to be in stable condition.

An investigation has been launched into the incident.
