Minister of Labour, Social Security, and Third Sector, Colin Jordan is encouraging employers to use laying off workers as a last resort.
On the heels of more than 200 workers at Sandals being made redundant, Mr. Jordan tells CBC News workers are not pieces of equipment that can be put down, but are human beings whose overall needs and commitments must be considered.
Mr. Jordan is also asking employers to work with the trade union movement to examine their operations before making critical decisions that would affect livelihoods.
