Barbados hopes to develop ocean space in new ways

Barbados is hoping to develop new ways to take advantage of its expansive ocean space to benefit the country now and in the future.

It’s doing so as efforts continue to draft the Barbados Marine Spatial Plan.

Director of the Coastal Zone Management Unit, Dr. Leo Brewster, says it will go beyond traditional activities such as swimming, water sports and fishing.

Dr. Brewster says they’re now preparing to receive submissions from the public, as they recognise the importance of stakeholder involvement.

He adds that young people are among the stakeholder groups being engaged.
