The Barbados Light and Power Company Limited (BL&P) is raising concerns that the building standards in relation to rooftop or ground-mounted photovoltaic (PV) systems, are not being enforced.
According to BL&P’s Director of Operations Johann Greaves, such standards are necessary as the island transitions to increased dependence on renewable energy technologies.
He says, currently, more than 13% of the island’s electrical energy demand is supplied by these systems.
Mr. Greaves added that photovoltaic systems being damaged during a weather system will result in reduced generated capacity for this island.
