Youth given opportunity to develop critical life skills

Approximately 3500 youngsters will have the opportunity to develop critical life skills in a new age over the summer.

This as the Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment moves to host 46 camps across the island.

This year will see the introduction of a camp for people with disabilities in partnership with the National Disabilities Unit, as well as the experience enterprise with the Youth Entrepreneurship Scheme.

The Next Step Training Initiative will also be hosting ten arts camps and two digital media camps, along with camp employing minds to prepare young people for the world of work.

Minister Charles Griffith says already 700 people have already registered for the camps, and at the end of the five weeks hope to see a changed individual.

Mr. Griffith adds some private sector entities have already partnered with them, and urges other entities to come on board.

Director of the National Sports Council, Neil Murrell says they want to introduce young people to a new concept in their discipline and to assist those who have already participated to further develop in their respective disciplines.

Mr. Murrell says in addition to the annual tours for camp participants, there will also be workshops hosted in conflict resolution, anti-bullying, drugs in sports, meeting the press, leadership and teamwork.
