Youth taking a stand on issues in Barbados

Barbadian youth are taking a stand on a number of issues in the country.

The executive of the Barbados Youth Development Council (BYDC) has urged officials to include the youth in every facet of life, including giving them a seat in the social partnership.

President Caleb Brathwaite says the rising tide of violence among young people is out of hand.

Already, Barbados has recorded 24 homicides for the year.

Mr. Brathwaite says they listened to Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley with great interest yesterday, and are in agreement with what he has prescribed to mitigate crime prevention in the country.

But they say more can be done.

Further, Mr. Brathwaite says there need to be requisite programmes implemented to assist young people in communities in an effort to meet them where they are.

And he urges officials to include young people in policymaking.
