Barbados has raised its concerns about deep sea fishing and the likely impact on fisheries stock at a high level United Nations meeting.
The matter was brought to the fore by Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary with Responsibility for Climate Change, Small Island Developing States and Law of the Sea, Senator Elizabeth Thompson.
She was at the time participating in the 24th Meeting of the United Nations Open-Ended Informal Consultative Process on Oceans and the Law of the Sea.
The Barbados delegation also included the Director of the Coastal Zone Management Unit Dr. Leo Brewster and Chief Fisheries Officer Dr. Shelly-Ann Cox.
