Barbados’ Prime Minister Mia Amor Mottley and senior World Health officials continue to press for accelerated action against antimicrobial resistance.
The calls were amplified during a Roundtable at the 77th World Health Assembly.
Ms. Mottley in a video message says a strong response is needed, and warned of the impact on health budgets.
2024 is an important year for antimicrobial resistance with the 2nd United Nations General Assembly High Level Meeting on AMR taking place in September and the 4th Ministerial Meeting taking place from November 15 to 16 in Saudi Arabia.
WHO Director General Dr. Tedros Ghebreyesus says AMR is a growing and urgent crisis.
