The University of the West Indies has made some strides to boost cooperation with African countries.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sir Hilary Beckles, has revealed the establishment of a UWI and University of Lagos Institute for the Study of African History and Culture in Nigeria and a UWI and University of Johannesburg Institute for the Study of Global Africa in South Africa.
Sir Hilary says the UWI is participating in the kind of research teaching and learning that will consolidate the development of the African people and the diaspora.
His comments came during an Africa-Caricom Day public forum titled “Unity across Continents and Oceans”.
The Most Honourable P.J. Patterson, Statesman in Residence at the P.J. Patterson Institute for Africa-Caribbean advocacy, is promoting the sharing of knowledge and capacity building between the region and Africa.
He has also called on the two regions to unite in the fight against climate change.
