As the 50th anniversary date for the 15 member grouping, CARICOM, draws near Barbados has kicked off its local activities to mark the day.
Activities in member states will be observed under the theme ’50 Years Strong: A Solid Foundation to Build On’.
Barbados’ Ambassador to CARICOM, David Comissiong says the island will be celebrating the milestone for a whole year.
CARICOM was established on July 4, 1973 with the signing of the Treaty of Chaguaramas by founding fathers, Prime Ministers Errol Barrow for Barbados; Forbes Burnham for Guyana; Michael Manley for Jamaica; and Dr. Eric Williams for Trinidad and Tobago.
