Roughly a month after Barbadians were told they could see a noticeable drop in their electricity bills, they may have to prepare for an increase.
This after the Fair Trading Commission announced today that it has granted the Barbados Light and Power Company an interim rate relief.
The utility company has applied for a rate increase, with hearings on the matter scheduled to start on September 21st.
During a press conference, CEO of the FTC, Dr. Marsha Atherley-Ikechi explained that interim rate relief may be applied during the period when an application for a rate increase is submitted and before a final determination on the substantive rate is issued.
She however notes that the utility company will not be given the full interim rate relief requested.
