CBC TV is the sole national broadcast corporation in Barbados. The channel provides viewers with local, regional and international content and provides special coverage of major political, weather, sporting and cultural events.
Established in 1964, CBC‘s original studio location was Sturges in St. Thomas. Then, viewers tuned in to Channel 3, 20 years later, in 1984, the station moved to Channel 9 and then in 1991 to Channel 8. As technology advanced CBC TV also made the move from analog to digital and now provides a crisp HD experience for its viewers.

December 15th, 1964
CBC TV Channel 3 was launched
It was operated in Sturges, St. Thomas and was well received in parts of Dominica, St. Lucia and St. Vincent.
The big move

CBC launched full Colour
This made Barbados the 3rd country in the Commonwealth to have full coloured programmes.
Channel 9
CBC Channel 9 TV carried its first “live” recording broadcast, of the Independence Day Parade from the historic Garrison Savannah
100% Local Programming
Transmitted 100% local programming for 17 hours in celebraton of Independence Day.
Full Ntsc
CBC changed to full NTSC 525 lines transmission making Barbados the 1st country in the world to combine the USA NTSC System and th British 50 cycles.
Computer Assisted Election Coverage
CBC broadcasted its first computer assisted election coverage
Satellite
The Corporation broadcasts international television news via satellite.
Change to Channel 9 & Olympics
Transmission change to channel 9
First coverage of Olympics
First non-American affiliate in the Caribbean to legally access CNN.
Caribvision
CBC partnered with Jamaica Broadcasting Network and a Trinidad television station to start Caribvision.
School Sports
First live inter-schol sports coverage and first live test coverage of cricket from throughout the Caribbean.
CARICOM Coverage
First live regional coverage of the CARICOM Heads of Governemnt from St. Kitts
Transmission Change
Transmission changed to channel 3.
