The head of the Barbados Postal Service Margaret Ashby is dead.
CBC News understands that the first female postmaster general passed away Monday after a brief illness.
Ms. Ashby who was 61 was responsible for maintaining the island's postal services.
She took over from Joel Brathwaite who retired in 2015.
Under her leadership the Barbados Postal Service received an international award for efficiency in the handling of express mail in 2016.
The state entity was awarded silver level certification for inbound delivery of express mail by the express mail service co-operative.
