The Sugar Association of the Caribbean remains optimistic about July crops despite drought conditions
It says the conditions are having adverse effects on regional producers.
According to the chairman of the regional association, Karl James, up to the end of May, regional producers exported just over 192 thousand metric tonnes of sugar.
This is several thousand tonnes less than the similar period last year.
Mr. James says that not much can be done to mitigate the effects of the drought in the region.
