The Anglican Church in Barbados has left it up to the regional House of Bishops to determine who will be its next leader.

That was the decision was taken late Monday night after the latest round of voting at the Christ Church Parish Centre ended in deadlock.

Neither of the two candidates - Dean Jeffrey Gibson nor Reverend John Rogers was able to gain the two thirds majority needed to secure the post.

CBC understands that in the one round of voting held, Dean Gibson maintained his support among the clergy gaining 44 votes in that house and 20 in the laity.

Reverend Rogers secured 57 votes in the laity and 31 in the clergy.

When it was clear that neither the clergy nor laity would move from their position, former bishop Rufus Brome moved a resolution that the matter be referred to the House of Bishops.

That resolution was supported 59-52.
