There's good news for all cheese lovers across the island.

A recent recall of Sargento cheeses does not affect Barbados.

International media reports have indicated that Sargento Cheese Limited issued a recall for some of its products earlier this month, amid fears of possible listeria contamination.

The possible bacterial contamination specifically affects Longhorn Colby cheese.

The company has not reported any illnesses.

The Sargento brand of cheeses is distributed in Barbados by Hanschell Inniss.

Division manager, Christopher Donowa says they contacted Sargento on February 12th after learning of the recall via the internet.

He tells CBC News that they have been assured by the company that those products in Barbados are not affected.
