Minister of Industry, Donville Inniss has encouraged Barbadian ophthalmologists to take the field to the next level.
He revealed that there are about four local specialists who are unique to the region.
Mr Inniss says an intensive campaign of public and private sector partnerships is necessary to make Barbados the region's centre of excellence for ophthalmic care.
Mr. Inniss was speaking at the seventh annual ophthalmology conference in Barbados.
The three day conference includes presentations on the latest management options in pediatric ophthalmology.
Mr. Inniss also called for more aggressive marketing of Barbados as a medical tourism destination.
