Barbados' marine assets are in danger but it's not too late to turn the situation around.
That's the message from representative of the Barbados Dive Operators association, Andre Miller.
Mr Miller was speaking at the launch of Divefest Barbados, at the Sugar Bay Resort, Hastings.
The event, from July 3rd to 8th, is now in its second year and features several activities, including diving, a beach clean-up, a lionfish hunt and much more.
Mr Miller says of the three major risks to the marine environment he identified, overfishing is the one that is easiest to deal with.
He explains that preventing overfishing makes the reefs more resilient, which results in several benefits.
