It was a lucky escape for over a dozen passengers travelling onboard a Transport Board bus when the vehicle caught fire Thursday morning.
The Transport Board bus was travelling north along Porters Road, St. James around ten minutes to six.
It was enroute to Speightstown with fifteen passengers.
The bus was at a bus stop when the driver was alerted by passengers of smoke coming from the rear of the vehicle.
The driver switched off the engine and tried to extinguish the fire in the engine compartment.
The Barbados Fire Service was summoned and responded with one tender and three fire officers and extinguished the blaze.
Two passengers who were onboard the bus complained of smoke inhalation and discomfort and opted for private medical treatment.
The bus was destroyed by the blaze.
Investigations are continuing.
