Increased trade and communication could be the result of an agreement between the University of the West Indies and China's Political Science and Law University.

Through the partnership, the first law research centre for China and the Caribbean will be established.

Pro vice chancellor and Principal of UWI Cave Hill Campus, Professor Eudine Barriteau believes this will create a greater understanding between the territories which could in turn lead to increased commerce.

The universities also signed an agreement to share publications which will involve translating works from Mandarin to English and vice versa.

Principal of UWI's open campus and chair of its press Dr. Luz Longsworth hopes the five year agreement will lead to joint publishing in areas such as history and politics.
