Though not being judged the Caribbean National Culinary team of the year at the just concluded Taste of the Caribbean competition in Miami, Barbados walked away with several silver awards.
Hosted by the Caribbean Hotel and Tourism Association, the Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bonaire, Cayman Islands, Curaçao, Jamaica, St. Lucia, Suriname, Trinidad and Tobago, and Turks and Caicos selected their best chefs and mixologists for this year's event.
Manager, Chef Henderson Butcher, was pleased with the performance of team Barbados.
The team arrived home to a warm welcome at the Grantley Adams International Airport.
The country's chefs and mixologists copped seven silver, two bronze and was judged the overall winner in the chocolate category.
Kiara Riley and Derio Boyce, though new to competing made their presence felt in the Caribbean junior chef and Caribbean chef of the year categories respectively.
Chairman of the Barbados Hotel and Tourism Association, Stephen Austin says the competition presents opportunities for local chefs to hone their skills.
He sees potential in the young chefs who were a part of Team Barbados.
