Plans are already underway for the University of the West Indies’ Cave Hill Campus to be home to the region's very first centre for biosecurity studies.

The revelation comes from principal of the Cave Hill Campus, Professor Eudine Barriteau.

Speaking at a symposium for biosecurity, Professor Barriteau says formal approval for the centre has already been granted.

She explained biosecurity as procedures intended to protect humans and animals from disease or harmful biological agents, while adding that the University has a major role to play in combatting the region's biosecurity threats.
