After some delay and calls for the Arch Hall Fire Station to reopen given its strategic location, the St Thomas station is back in operation.
The facility was closed in 2014 to facilitate the construction of a state-of-the-art training school.
The Barbados Fire Academy however is set to be officially opened next week.
Chief Fire Officer Errol Maynard says the St. Thomas-based fire station reopened Wednesday, but noted that the transition was still ongoing.
The station, which will have two appliances at its base will service parishes in the northern part of the island.
Meanwhile, the St. James fire station will remain closed until further notice.
