The umbrella body for local trade unions is making a case for workers with disabilities.
General Secretary of the Congress of Trade Unions and Staff Associations of Barbados Dennis Depeiza announced that the Congress will be embarking on a year-long project called employment of workers with disabilities.
The project will be a collaborative effort between CTUSAB, the Barbados Council for the Disabled, the National Disability Unit and the Barbados National Organisation of the Disabled.
In keeping the focus on awareness and education, Mr. Depeiza is making a plea for job training for disabled workers.
Mr. Depeiza also suggests that research be conducted on the number of people with disabilities seeking employment and those who are actively engaged in the workforce.
Operations manager of the Barbados Council for the Disabled, Roseanna Tudor believes that in addition to training for disabled workers, there is also a need for sensitivity training for non-disabled staff.
